New Software for Sony GPS receivers

Starting last January, Sony will bundle new versions of Picture Motion Browser software and Image Tracker software with its GPS receiver for digital imaging products.

With this new software, the GPS-CS1KASP device can trace the GPS coordinates of your video footage to an online map, courtesy of Google™. The product will continue to support GPS tagging of digital still photos.

Benefits of the new GPS-CS1KASP device include:

• The GPS receiver records your location every 15 seconds so you can trace your course while recording video or pinpoint the loacation where you took a photo.

• The updated software pairs the GPS recordings with your video and still photos so you can trace your video, or plot your photo, to an online map, courtesy of the Google maps™ mapping service.

• The cylindrical 12-channel receiver is only 3.5-inches long and weights just two ounces.

• Compatible with virtually any digital camera or camcorder, the product is able to store 360 hours of coordinates on its internal memory.

Sony includes two new attachment accessories so you can secure to the GPS receiver to your arm when running or hiking or to your bike when cycling. The product continues to offer a carabiner to attach the receiver to a backpack or a belt loop.

The GPS-CS1KASP device will be available next month for about $150 at sonystyle.com, at Sony Style® retail stores (www.sonystyle.com/retail) , and at authorized dealers nationwide.

Writer’s note: We still have to see how good it will perform, however this shows that Sony is finally getting serious about GPS.

New long zoomer from Sony

This is just the release. I haven’t toyed around with it yet. The bold parts are the interesting and useful features. And the italic ones are the good for marketing kind of thing.

Sony H50

Meet Sony’s newest member from the high-zoom camera line, the 9.1-megapixel Cyber-shot® DSC-H50 digital camera. This new model utilizes a powerful Carl Zeiss® 15x optical zoom lens with Super SteadyShot® optical image stabilization to capture action at a distance. One of the main lens elements is manufactured from super low-dispersion glass, which helps it produce more exact point-to-point correspondence between an object and its image. The lens yields sharp, high-contrast images and reduces color fringing, even when shooting in telephoto ranges.

The camera also features a large, 3-inch tilting LCD screen so you can shoot comfortably from nearly any position, at low and high angles. Its scratch-resistant, UV hard-coat finish adds a premium look and feel that mirrors the performance of the model.

Off to Bali: What to bring?

beach in Bali
I’m having a workshop tomorrow for 3 days and 2 nights in Bali. That’s the beach in the picture. In case you haven’t been to Bali, it’s the most wonderful place on Earth. At least for me since I’ve never been out from Asia. :) There are no tall buildings, since they are prohibited. The sky is very blue and very clear, almost any time of the year, since there are only dry season and rainy season.

Anyhow, I’m a little bit confused on what to bring during my workshop-vacation thing. :) more…

Various Sony Rolly’s videos

To complete the Sony Rolly’s hype and give a better glimpse at the musical robot (I don’t think we can classify that as an MP3 player), here’s several videos showcasing the dancing, singing, and expensive MP3 player + capsule robot.

Enjoy….

One Day with Sony Alpha 700

Sony Alpha 700Just before Christmas, I have the opportunity to toy with the new Sony Alpha 700. The Sony guys were kind enough to brought so many lenses, ranging from 17-85mm Carl Zeiss, 300mm Carl Zeiss, 85mm Sony, and many more. I think they brought almost a dozen lenses. There were 12 people that were invited to test the Alpha 700, divided into two groups. So everyone can pick their own lens and even switched it.

We went photo-huntingi n Puncak, near the tea plantation up on the slope. Appararently, Sony Indonesia had prepared the schedule and destination for our photo-hunt, Melrimba Garden. I never went there by myself actually, so it’s pretty exciting. Turned out that more…
