Motion gaming with Sony Ericsson F305

For those of you who get tired of pressing your phone’s keys frantically during mobile games, Sony Ericsson has heard your plea by releasing the F305 with Motion Gaming.
Basically the premise is pretty simple. Instead of pressing buttons, players now can control games with the flick of a wrist or the swing of an arm. The result will be immediately shown on the screen. The real game example will be imitate bowling movement or casting a fishing line. In fact, F305 comes with three preloaded motion games, “Bowling”, “Bass fishing”, and “Jockey”. There is no news about how many motion games already in the market, but I think it’s not much.

Other gaming features cover horizontal game play and dedicated gaming keys. To complement the F305, Sony Ericsson has provide a handy new accessory to boost the battery life. Attach Power Pack CPP-100 to your keyring and when the phone is low on juice, simply plug it into the phone to receive an instant battery power boost.

Of course, it a multimedia phones with these standard features:
• 2.0 megapixel camera and Bluetooth™
• Expandable memory via Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) slot.
• Loud stereo speakers
• Exchangeable Style-Up covers
• Comes in two different colors; polar white and mystic black

Project Capuchin: Combine Flash Lite & Java

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication announced plans to release a new technology that, for the first time, bridges the Abobe® Flash Lite™ and Java ME™ development platforms. The new technology and tools, referred to as Project Capuchin, make it possible to combine the richness of Flash Lite and Java ME technologies allowing developers to utilize the best attributes of both software stacks to create content-rich mobile applications.

Project Capuchin will provide developers with an intuitive tool to create applications with a cleaner user interface (UI) without sacrificing the strong, feature rich and widely deployed Java ME infrastructure, including secure, well-developed content distribution. It will also allow pure Flash Lite content to be encapsulated in Java ME applications, making content created by Adobe Flash technology appear as Java ME applications.

More advanced capabilities will allow Flash Lite technology to handle an entire presentation layer and make it possible to create Java ME applications where some or all UI components are defined in Flash.

Sony Ericsson has plans to make the technology available during the second half of 2008 and will demonstrate Project Capuchin enabled applications at the JavaOne Developer Event in San Francisco, May 6 – 9, booth 718 in the Pavilion.

Xperia X1: Beautiful Name, Promising Concept

Finally Sony Ericsson churns out a decent (very understated) communication device. Yup, I can really feel the Sony-Japanese vibe in the Xperia X1. Even the name seems taken out straight from manga character. Just try to say it and drag it, Xperriaaaaaa X1. Okay, I had my moments there…

x1_1.jpg

From the features list, there is nothing to complain about. There is not many mobile phone that can match X1’s specifications. The initial rumor suggests that X1 will be loaded with all the connections available today, from HSDPA, Bluetooth, EDGE, to Wi-Fi. However, the real show stopper is the design. I’m not a fan of sliding mechanism in a phone, but X1 is really beautiful. Of course, I really have to hold it in my hand to confirm how good it is, but judging from the pics and videos, it’s a decent phone.
The question is when it will come out and how much (in Indonesia), and judging from my past experience with Windows Mobile device, how stable and different it is compared to other WM device. I really hope that Sony Ericsson has enough tricks to lure smartphone users that stay away from WM devices because the many problems and unstabilities they have. So, back to the wait mode…

Small Is Beautiful

Never before in my life have I seen a company so keen on expanding its product portfolio in very short time. Since the advent of K750 just short of three years ago, Sony Ericsson have expanded the K series into two distinct line of products, the regular K series and the Cyber-shot K series. The regular K series came with vanilla offerings but mainly, the phones camera is without auto focus (sans K750) compared to the Cyber-shot K series and the accompanying camera interface.

my K700i

I’ve been using my Sony Ericsson K700i for more than 2 years now, and there are so much to write home about my phone. I mainly chose this type due to its capability to play MP3 ringtones, and its design.

In the first week, the phone worked well. Then, things started to get interesting. The ringtone failed to function, and also the vibrating function, even though both were activated. So, people would start complaining because I didn’t pick up their call. I was surprised as my phone wasn’t ringing nor vibrating! It also happened to the SMS alert. And I haven’t mentioned when it chose to “hang” :) more…
