Bigger Phone, Smaller PC, Or Both
If there is one good excuse to make mobile phones’ dimensions a bit bigger, it would be that it’s no longer a phone. Huh?!
That’s exactly the point.
HTC Shift. The new UMPC-smartphone from the Taiwanese manufacturer is sure to turn some heads.
With 7 inch widescreen display, 1GB RAM, 30GB hard drive, and VIA CPU, it feels like UMPC. However the inclusion of 3G and HSDPA connectivity makes it a new breed of gadget. However, the most interesting thing is the operating system used. Shift uses Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition, with fully functional Aero interface.
However, it remains to be seen whether the VIA CPU is up for the task. From the previous experience, it is confirmed that VIA CPU is slowwwwwwwwww when running Windows XP. Still, it’s a great news for those who have set their eyes on UMPC but still think that screen size larger than 8,9″ is bulky.
